VCD fielded their young starlets once again as they played their 3rd fixture in 5 days away to Redbridge.

With nineteen year old keeper Tim Roberts behind seventeen years old George Mitchell, nineteen year old winger Callum O’Shea, seventeen years old winger Tom Bradshaw and a front line of Reece Walsh ( nineteen ) and Uche Ibemere ( seventeen ) the side had a young look to it. Redbridge were awarded an early penalty when Gary Cook bundled over the energetic forward with an obvious foul.

The forward sent the ball to Robert’s right side and his shot rebounded back off the post and was cleared to safety. Mins later O’Shea was adjudged to have tripped the same hard forward and this time the forward slotted home sending the ball the same way past Roberts. The Vickers created lots of possibilities to score with Bradshaw, Ibemere and O’Shea all going close. The equaliser came from a Hogg corner with Ibemere rising at the far post to power the ball home. The 2nd half saw some fine attacking play from the Vickers with new signing Jason Dolby putting in a person of the match performance in the center of midfield.

Vickers honeys purloin the show at Redbridge O’Shea sent in a chain of crosses and Ibemere and Walsh both threatened. The winner came on eighty mins from another Hogg corner that was met by Watson at the far post and Gary Cook headed home from two yards. Substitute Nick Hegley was released by Hogg and with just the keeper to beat his shot was easily saved. Redbridge pushed for an equaliser but found young keeper Roberts in fine form saying a sequence of crosses without trouble.
