Roll up roll up, people, lads and lasses for the one and only student holiday Beach Break Live
Roll up roll up, people, lads and lasses the one student holiday Beach Break Live have not only gone and bagged themselves a breath taking new site complete with eight miles of spotless silky white sand and a wood journey park with its own dry ski slope but they have also managed to drag a whopper of a line up out of the bag! The holiday happens at Pembrey Country Park, South Wales on the 14th-18th June. Surfing on an eclectic wave of enormous beats, spoken word and ethereal pop, 2010’s line up is as various and unique as its crowd and is shaping up to be the largest to date!
We will completely exhibit that synth pop’s best ( and tallest ) Calvin Harris will be switching his thin jeans for a wet suit this summer as he heads down to the beach to strap line one of the 3 wonderful days. Joining him on the beach bill will be drum and bass boys and rising stars Chase and Status who’ve seen a large year ripping up the charts and dance floors round the country with their great live show.
Next up is electro pop starlet Ellie Goulding whose weightless Tracy Thorne-esque vocals and lustrous synth pop beats have marked her out as a definite one to observe and after scooping the Brits Choice Award and following in the steps of Flo and Adel ; the sky looks to be the limit for this starry eyed singer. Also confirmed are London rappers potty mouthed lyrical genius Plan B and electro boy Example who also will be joined by BBL vet and Essex’s freshest performance poet, Scroobius Pip and his faithful comrade and Mac knob-twiddler Dan Le Sac. Rhyme- spitter extraordinaire, the mythical Beardyman also will be available to wow you with his jaw dropping performance.
Flying the flag for the indie youngsters are Sunderland’s own post punk rockers, the fabulous Futureheads. Expect high-energy super charged riffing with more hooks than a pirate’s convention as the boys treat you to a perfectly tight performance you will not forget in a hurry! Next in line are super horny electro outfit and furnishers of cool, the wonderful New Young Pony Club.
Strutting, flicker and bags of sass are what this 4 piece do best and with an amazing brand spanking new second album under their studded belts, put on your dancing shoes as this foursome will not fail to get you bopping! They are going to be joined by some new faces including 16-year-old Daisy Dares You.
Dubbed the English Avril lavigne, expect bubble gum pink pop with masses of perspective as this one to observe gives it some heavy welly! And if pink’s not your thing then I Blame Coco ( aka. Coco Sumner aka.
Sting’s girl ) will be bringing her very own mix of reggae colored pop and a familiar husky voice to events. And as if this was not exciting enough, Beach Break Live are also happy to announce an entire crop of DJs to their bill including the likes of queen of the party set Radio 1’s own Ms Annie Mac, Drum and Bass heavyweight Sub Focus, electro idol Fake Blood and Yorkshire gigantic bass ragamuffin Toddla T together with well-known favorites, Scratch Perverts and Dub Pistols Sound system among others. We won’t wait! Growing from just one thousand scholars in it’s first year to 5000 in it’s 2nd and ten thousand in it’s 3rd, 2010 will see a gigantic 17,500 UK scholars head to the Welsh coast in their masses for a few days of sun, sea, sand, surf and music.
Think BBQs, sand castles, sun washing, cocktail drinking and general beach side holiday nonsense.
Other extraordinary extras include some of 2009’s favorite venues, including the powerful Main Stage, the infamous party palace that’s the Home Dance Home, the Bass Busting Dance Tent, the Stupidly Hot Tubs, the Camped Up Camp Fire and Chai Wallah’s to name a couple. Of course we were unable to forget the legendary Tache Bar – where face hair is not just counseled but essential!
If dancing the hours away isn’t dynamic enough then there’ll be a flood of offsite activities such as surfing, coasteering, wakeboarding and paddle boarding as well as beach side sports starting from volleyball to final Frisbee and kiteboarding to land sailing. The popular BBL workshops will be going full throttle each day, so if you want getting a grip on the art of origami, backflipping over walls or knitting your A / W hat then this, and plenty more, will be going on! The Beach Break ethos is a fair approach to the community and ticket holders. Whether it is running buses from universities to reduce carbon emissions, or working with the area community, providers, enterprises and charities, BBL works to make a contribution to the local surroundings and the people they share it with!
