ESPN2 Will Be Showing Beach Volleyball Tour
The AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour will have thirteen events on ESPN2 and ABC this season, beginning Apr eighteen with a women’s event in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. All the events will be broadcasted in high-definition. 4 events are slated for ABC — the men’s last June six at Huntington Beach, Calif, the women’s last July twenty-five in Malibu, Calif, the women’s last August. Twenty-two in Manhattan Beach, Calif, and the men’s last August.
Twenty-nine in Chicago ( the women’s last that day will be on at midnight on ESPN2 ). Matches will be streamed on ESPN360.com ( shortly to be renamed ESPN3.com ), and up-to-the minute scores on the ESPN ScoreCenter mobile app for iPhone and iPod Touch devices. There also will be further streaming video on AVP.com of early-round matches. “This new agreement gives us a consistent countrywide reach that’ll be crucial to our expansion as a sport, and we were unable to be more excited that both our obsessed fans and a growing new audience will be in a position to follow us on ESPN,” said Jason Hodell, Chief Executive Officer of the AVP, in an announcement. “I believe this relationship with ESPN / ABC could do more in one broadcast to legitimize our players and the game than we know,” announced AVP commissioner Mike Dodd, a previous Olympian and AVP star. “This is a great day for volleyball.”.
